ICANN publishes draft application procedures
This week, ICANN issued the draft procedures for applying for a generic Top Level Domain (gTLD). The procedures, while still in draft, provide a good understanding of how the process will work, especially where two groups apply for similar names.
Along with these procedures, ICANN also published a draft contract along with the estimated the fees ($185,000) for applying for a domain name.
We have prepared a summary of the application process and it can be found at http://dotscot.com/scot/applications.
There are some critical elements in the application that are needed to ensure that the application for a Scottish gTLD is succesful. These vary from chosing the best name to reduce the risks of not being awarded the name, through to the support required for getting the name.
